Westmoreland House Members Address Budget Concerns with County Commissioners
September 22, 2025
HARRISBURG – Several Westmoreland County members of Pennsylvania House of Representatives today provided a state budget update to the county’s board of commissioners. As many county offices begin voluntary furloughs, the solution to the current budget impasse is one House vote away. House Democrat leadership refuses to call session to consider the bill on the House floor.
The House Appropriations Committee earlier this month passed Senate Bill 160, which carries over the 2024-25 budget plan of $47.6 billion to the current fiscal year. If the House were to pass the bill, without it being amended, it would then need the signature of Gov. Josh Shapiro.
“We could pass last year’s budget, restore county services, and finish negations on new spending without forcing undue hardship on Commonwealth families,” the legislators said. “It’s been 13 days since a stop-gap budget passed through the House Appropriations Committee in a unanimous, bipartisan vote. It’s time for a floor vote.”
In a letter, the lawmakers encouraged the Westmoreland County Board of Commissioners to highlight the viability of Senate Bill 160 to House leaders and the County Commissioners' Association.
