Rasel: Taxpayers’ Wallets Must be Prioritized

February 4, 2025

HARRISBURG – Rep. Brian Rasel (R-Westmoreland) issued the below statement following Gov. Josh Shapiro’s budget address Tuesday:

“Since Pennsylvania’s founding in 1681 and until the turn of the century in 2000, we had never had a budget that spent more than $20 billion. Here we are, a quarter of a century later, and looking at a budget that surpasses $50 billion. To me, that’s unacceptable and personally, I am more concerned about the amount of money taxpayers keep in their pockets than what Harrisburg thinks it needs.

“Certainly, priorities like education and public safety are core governmental functions, but the financial health of the Commonwealth’s citizenry must remain on the front burner. It’s their money that is being appropriated and it must be used responsibly.”
